ABOUT AMERICA
Whether George McCrae is touring Asia or Africa,
recording in England, doing a Top of
the Pops TV Show in
Germany, entertaining Gorbachev at a discotheque in Malta, or
performing for royalty in Ghana, he doesn’t forget his
beloved America. For years he has made gold records available
in 82 countries, opened gigs for the likes of James Brown and
The Jacksons at Madison Square Garden, and sang his heart out
around the world. His patriotism was never ending. His
patriotic spirit is reflected in his new CD release America
Red White and Blue, on his new label Castle Mountain Music
Ltd.
"We are the land of plenty, but Americans don’t
realize how blessed we are. We need to realize how great we
are, how blessed we are, and how to love each other," says
George McCrae. "When we got out of Vietnam, people were not
patriotic. When Carter was President in 1980 and tried to
rescue the hostages in Iran, it was a bad omen for America.
This energy inspired me to write the song, America Red White
and Blue”.
“It happened at 3 o’clock in the morning after
recording the vocal for Hot To The Touch. Kevin Misevis, my
co-writer and producer, started playing a riff on the piano, I
felt the urge to grab the mike, our engineer hit the record
button on the tape recorder and the words and music just came
out of the Red, White and Blue. In six minutes we wrote this
great American song. Unfortunately, in 1981 no one was
interested, so I put it on the shelf and it collected dust for
21 years. After September 11, I felt a call to duty to release
America Red White and Blue and I gave Kevin a call," explains
McCrae, who teamed up with Misevis again. They digitally
restored, re-mixed and re-mastered the original tracks.
McCrae and Misevis both live in and relate to
small towns, where people are friendly and look out for each
other. Perhaps that’s why they were so comfortable performing
America Red White and Blue for the first time on a float
pulled by a tractor in the annual Flag Day Parade on June 14th
2002 in Stamford, New York. George’s performance was captured
on a Video News Release, which aired nationally in June and
July of 2002 and can be downloaded at

Small towns are just part of the picture for
this gold and platinum recording artist. "Travel is key," says
McCrae. "There are many people who have never left their
country. It’s healthy to leave. By living outside a place in
another culture, you can look in, see other things and have a
new appreciation for the familiar," he adds. This is the case
for McCrae, who divides his time in Florida, Holland, and
Aruba. He believes his beloved America has to act like a
leader. His unbounding passion for his homeland as well as
everyone’s need for love, are what his new album, America Red
White and Blue, is all about. Check it out at
